The Executive Chairman of the Asante Kotoko football club, Dr Kwame Kyei is incensed with the playing body and the technical team of his club. Dr Kwame Kyei is angry to the extent that he has point blankly told players and the technical team that, he doesn’t mind dispensing with the services of all of them and hire new personnel in a move to boost the club’s performance.
According to myjoyonline.com, this came to light yesterday, February 24, 2020, when Dr Kwame Kyei convened a meeting in order to address the club’s dwindling performance in matches quite recently. The last of two losses was when the Porcupine Warriors lost their match to a second-division side, Deportivo Asokwa by 1-2 at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Sunday, thus exiting from the MTN FA Cup.
Joy News reported that Dr Kyei’s threat was secretly recorded and leaked from a “crisis meeting.”
Following the shocking defeat and their exit, Dr Kyei reportedly held a crisis meeting with the team on Monday. During the meeting, he reportedly threatened the team that he “doesn’t mind dissolving the entire team and starting afresh because they are embarrassing him.”
“I don’t care dissolving the entire team. I can dissolve the whole team, sack all of you and start afresh. I don’t mind. This club is not a useless club. It is a team with history. This stupid and village attitude is the reason you cannot play in Europe,” Kwame Kyei reportedly said.
“Camarat (owner of Asokwa Deportivo) doesn’t even have ¢100 to give to his players. He buys porridge and they all share to eat. That’s their only motivation to play.
“You all here are paid so well, more than in any club. Then you allow these small boys to beat you and you call yourselves professionals,” he went on.
“I won’t sit down and let you lose so that someone will come and insult me. I won’t tolerate that.
“Look at the way they booed you (players) after the game; like thieves. And you were happy.
“From the coach to the players; if any of you is not ready to play for Kotoko, you can leave. I will reconstitute the team,” Kwame Kyei said before reportedly storming out of the meeting.
